European Border Breakers Award 2008
On January 27, the fifth annual European Border Breakers Award 2008 ceremony will be held in Cannes, awarding the most successful musicians in the countries of the European Union, but not at home. The winners are those artists and groups who, firstly, had successful tours throughout the year, and secondly, sold the most albums during the same year. Thus, the total work results for the year are summarized. Statistics provided by Billboard Information Group.
In previous years, the winners of EBBA were KT Tunstall, Arash, Amel Bent, Tokio Hotel, Helena Paparizou, Katie Melua, Benny Benassi. This year, the most famous name on the list is Dolores O`Riordan. The rest are known strictly within the EU: Frenchwoman Ayo, Swede Basshunter, German Cascada, Danish group Dune, Poles Hemp Gru, Spaniard Miguel Angel Muñoz, Belgian ReBorn, Finnish group Sunrise Avenue and English trio The Fratellis.
The ceremony will be a quiet European brawl – it is unlikely that any of the announced musicians will become known in the world. It just so happened that mainly the British escaped, less often the Swedes, even less – the Germans and the French. Even the results of the Eurovision, despite the noise around it, few people are interested in, except for the performers themselves and their fans. But since people are pleased…
