Queen of Ukraine 2008, 20-year-old Odessa citizen Mary Yakimuk is recognized as the winner of the 20th anniversary international contest “Miss Model of the World 2008”, which was held in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. This was reported by a member of the jury of Miss Model of the World, president of the Queen of Ukraine contest, Natalya Kovaleva.
According to her, 64 participants took part in the competition – representatives of Russia, China, England, Brazil, Venezuela, Canada and other countries of the world.
The Miss World Model contest lasted three weeks. This year, in addition to the usual program – tours of China and rehearsal weeks – the participants performed a charity mission: presented national souvenirs of their countries to flood victims in China.
The gala show of the competition consists of several stages: the output in national costumes, in swimsuits and the final output in evening dresses.
The president of the contest, Suha Alpaili, said that Maria Yakimuk was immediately among the favorites. “She was distinguished not only by external data, but also by her behavior. Very sincere, friendly and, of course, she possesses all the qualities necessary for a model: ease of walking, ability to demonstrate clothes favorably on the catwalk and in front of the photographer’s camera.”
This is the first victory of the winner of the national beauty contest “Queen of Ukraine”. Earlier, the rights to the contest belonged to the Tavrian Games festival, and the Queen of Ukraine participants did not have the right to delegate to other competitions. Since 2008, the rights to the contest passed to the national representative of the Miss Model of the World and Miss Bikini Universe contest in Ukraine Natalya Kovaleva. The winner of the Queen of Ukraine received the right to delegate to other competitions.
This year Ukraine was also represented at the competition by a participant from the Crimea, Alena Shestakova. She entered the top thirty.
