Ukraine will ensure stable supplies of natural gas to European consumers, said Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko. Tymoshenko made this statement after today’s meeting with the chairman of NAK Naftogaz Ukrainy Oleg Dubina.
“I would like all gas consumers, both European and Ukrainian, to calmly celebrate the holidays and know that Ukraine will be a worthy partner, both for the European Union and for all gas consumers in Ukraine, enterprises and citizens, without exception. We will not allow any hesitation, ”Yulia Tymoshenko said.
She assured that the government will make all necessary efforts to ensure stable gas supplies to Europe and Ukraine. “And those who brought NAK Naftogaz of Ukraine to such a situation would be a separate conversation and a separate responsibility,” the prime minister emphasized.
January 2, Yulia Tymoshenko announced that Naftogaz of Ukraine is on the verge of bankruptcy. According to her, the company does not have an approved gas balance for 2008, and has such accounts payable, which indicates that “the financial health of the company is not ensured.”
The head of government did not rule out that using the artificial bankruptcy procedure of NAK Naftogaz Ukrainy, the Ukrainian gas transmission system was planned to be transferred to dubious companies.
Tymoshenko emphasized that the government will make every effort to conduct financial recovery of NAK Naftogaz Ukraine, as well as to prevent a possible loss of the gas transmission system of Ukraine.
According to her, to save the company, the government is ready to reorganize the company through direct budgetary allocations, as well as provide a system of necessary benefits.
Article 13 of the Law of Ukraine On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2008 and on Amending Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine provides for the provision of state guarantees for the obligations of NAK Naftogaz of Ukraine in the amount of 12 billion UAH.
