France wants to become European leader in tourism revenue

French Minister of Economy Christine Lagarde and Secretary of State for Tourism Luc Chatel announced the launch of the France Destination 2020 project, which should make this country the European leader in tourism revenue.

Despite the fact that France annually receives more tourists than any other country in the world (71.9 million in 2006), it is only in third place after the United States and Spain in terms of income from the tourism industry.

To rectify this situation, a new project was launched, the implementation of which involved the American company Boston Consulting Group. She will have to provide a “strategic analysis of tourism demand in the next 15 years.”

“In the past ten years, the share of tourism revenue in GDP has declined from 7.3 to 6.3%,” the ministry’s communiqué says.

In 2006, France received $ 46.3 billion from tourism, while in Spain this amount was 51.1, and in the US – 85.7 billion.

At the beginning of March, the first results of the analysis of the tourist market of France, which will help to better understand the needs of travelers to France, will become known.
