Europe Day to be held for the first time in St. Petersburg
On Europe Day, Petersburgers will appreciate continental cuisine, cinema and will be able to win trips to France and Cyprus. In St. Petersburg on Saturday for the first time will host the international festival “Europe Day”.
According to the Committee on External Relations of St. Petersburg, the opening ceremony of the festival will be attended by the head of the European Commission’s mission in Russia, Marc Franco, French Consul General Michel Aubrey, the administration of St. Petersburg, and the heads of diplomatic and cultural missions of the European Union countries.
The festival will open with a debate on the topic “European Borders and European Identity”, in which Prof. Prof. Director of the European Academy in Berlin will take part. Eckart Stratenshulte, Professor Giulio de Robertis from the University of Bari (Italy), Professor of St. Petersburg Theological Schools Archpriest George Mitrofanov and other scholars.
Consulate Generals and Cultural Centers of the European Union will host Open Doors Day. Everyone will be able to visit information and tourism fairs, learn about national traditions, youth and cultural programs, about scholarships offered to Russian students to study in the EU, as well as take part in various competitions and free language lessons.
As part of the event, Petersburgers will be able to try unique European dishes at a special price in many restaurants in the city.
In the cinema center “Rodina” European cinema will be shown all day. The program of the event includes the best films of Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and France, as well as the premiere of the German film “On the Edge of Paradise”.
Throughout the day, more than 30 venues of the festival will host the Great European Competition. Participants who correctly answered the quiz questions will be able to go on a trip to France and Cyprus.
One of the festival’s events was organized for students in grades 8-10 – they will take part in a special quiz and see the Little Red Riding Hood theater performance in 10 European languages.
Europe Day is a celebration associated with the birth of the European Union.
