The British company OTP Holidays, specializing in ski tourism in Switzerland, refused to sell ski passes to Russians because of the situation in Ukraine. This was reported on the company’s website.
“Please note that due to the situation in Ukraine, we cannot accept orders from Russia. Such orders will be canceled and the money returned, ”is written in the agreement published on the site.
The Swiss Tourism Office (Switzerland Tourism) does not seriously consider the initiative of the British company.
“This is a small-town initiative of a British company that did not even work purposefully with Russian tourists. She will not affect anything. When leaving for Switzerland, our tourists interact either with Russian companies or with Swiss, or use popular online booking systems” explained Switzerland Tourism.
This is not the first time that European businessmen have introduced discriminatory restrictions against Russians. In April 2014, it became known that the owner of the four-star Brioni hotel in the Czech Republic banned the stay of Russian tourists in the hotel due to the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
International sanctions against the Russian Federation were imposed by the United States, EU countries and several other states in connection with the accession of Crimea to Russia and events in eastern Ukraine. These included measures such as the seizure of assets of certain Russian companies and businessmen, restriction of access to global financial markets, and denial of visas for individual citizens. During 2014, restrictions expanded several times.
