Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine over gas continue
The deadline for shutting off the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine was postponed for 8 hours – the heads of Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine agreed on Monday. On Tuesday, their negotiations will continue. If agreement is not reached, gas supplies to Ukraine can be reduced by a quarter as early as 18 hours Moscow time.
Says Sergey Kupriyanov, an official representative of Gazprom: “We, as a company, would be interested in all the problems being resolved, and we would not face another situation of potential reputation risks for the company, but I personally do not believe that this is for us will be able to do. “
Ukraine seeks to reassure the countries of the European Union, where they fear that the situation may affect gas supplies to Europe. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Yulia Tymoshenko stated: “All our obligations will be fulfilled. Ukraine will remain a reliable partner of the European Union and will ensure gas transit.”
Today, a grand concert was held in the Kremlin Palace in honor of the 15th anniversary of Gazprom. Festivities take place on the eve of Viktor Yushchenko’s visit to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin, during which, it is expected, the theme of gas supplies will be key.
