The site of the first EU electronic library is disabled due to visitors

The provider is forced to disable the site of the first European electronic library “Europeana” www.europeana.eu, which was opened the day before in the .eu zone, due to the massive influx of visitors that led to technical problems, European Commission representative Martin Sailmaer said on Friday.

“Europeans fell prey to their success,” he told reporters in Brussels, reporting that by Thursday evening the influx of site visitors had reached 10 million per hour.

According to Selmpayer, the Germans and the French showed more interest in the “Europeans”.

The site’s work will resume by mid-December, a spokesman for the EU executive promised.

It is planned that by 2010, “Europeana” will include 10 million electronic publications.
