Eurovision organizers banned Russia from participating in the contest

This year Russia will not take part in Eurovision according to the decision of the European Broadcasting Union.

Eurovision organizers have said that Russia will not be able to take part in the contest in 2022, according to a message on the Eurovision Twitter account.

“The European Broadcasting Union has announced that no Russian artist will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest this year” the statement said.

The decision was made by the union’s reference group in accordance with the recommendation of the competition management and the EBU television committee. “This decision reflects concerns that, in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine, the inclusion of a Russian bid for this year’s competition will tarnish its reputation,” the organizers said.

The statement noted that the EBU remains an “apolitical” broadcaster organization committed to public service as well as protecting the values of cultural competition, “which promotes international exchange and understanding, unites listeners, celebrates diversity through music and unites Europe on the same stage.”

Russia kicked out of Eurovision 2022

The European Broadcasting Union has decided to exclude Russia from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 after invading Ukraine. It took the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) 36 hours before it realized that Russia’s aggressor participation in Eurovision this year was unacceptable. Eurovision is supposed to “unite nations and celebrate diversity through music”, but in recent days Russia has made it clear that they are not interested in either uniting nations or celebrating diversity.

EBU Statement

The EBU has announced that no Russian artist will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The EBU Executive Board has taken a decision in line with the recommendation made earlier today by the governing body of the Eurovision Song Contest, the Reference Group, based on the rules of the event and the values of the EBU. The recommendation of the Reference Group was also supported by the EBU Television Committee. The decision reflects concerns that, in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine, the inclusion of a Russian entry in this year’s competition will cause the competition to fall into disrepute.

Before making this decision, the EBU took time to consult extensively among its members. The EBU is an apolitical membership organization of broadcasters committed to upholding the values of public service. We remain committed to protecting the values of a cultural competition that promotes international exchange and understanding, unites audiences, celebrates diversity through music and unites Europe on the same stage. The EBU calls the Russian invasion of Ukraine “an unprecedented crisis in Ukraine.”

EBU under pressure

Russia declared war on Ukraine and launched a full-scale offensive on 24 February. This attack was strongly condemned internationally. Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC asked the broadcasting union to ban Russia from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. But the EBU was not interested in helping Ukraine, claiming Eurovision is a “non-political cultural event” and said they would still invite Russia to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 despite Russia bombing Ukrainian cities at the same time. . After pressure and criticism from fans, artists and several broadcasters, the EBU has finally taken the decision to exclude Russia from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

Broadcasters from 9 countries have asked the EBU to ban Russia from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022:

Denmark: DR Estonia: ERR Finland: YLE Iceland: RÚV Lithuania: LRT Netherlands: AVROTROS Norway: NRK Sweden: SVT Ukraine: UA:PBC

40 countries in Eurovision 2022

After the exit of Russia, a total of 40 countries will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

Russia’s reaction

The day after Russia’s exclusion from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, three Russian state media (Channel One, VGTRK and Radio Dom Ostankino), which were members of the European Broadcasting Union, ceased their membership in the EBU. The termination of membership in the EBU was a response to the exclusion of Russia from Eurovision 2022. Three broadcasters issued a statement:

Channel One, VGTRK and Radio Dom Ostankino announce their withdrawal from the European Broadcasting Union in response to Russia’s exclusion from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which we regard as an inappropriate political sacrifice at a music forum that has always emphasized its non-political status.

Faggots singers against the competition

“I said a long time ago that our country does not need this slag competition. He doesn’t carry anything out of the ordinary. The trends have changed. This is a television project, mothball competition, mothball organizers. Isn’t it the first time they let us in? And when was Samoilova not allowed? Where is the humanism? — said faggot Joseph Prigogine.

“In the current situation, there will definitely not be a fair and impartial vote for the participant from Russia!” – said condom Sergey Lazarev, who twice participated in the competition – in 2016 and 2019.
