NATO cyber training ground and rapid reaction forces appear in Estonia

In the UK, the NATO summit continues, at which a number of important statements on Ukraine were made the day before, for example, on a ceasefire and weapons for Kiev. Estonian Minister of Defense Sven Mikser and NATO’s Commander-in-Chief for Transformation, General Jean-Paul Palomero, have signed an agreement of intent in Wales to establish a NATO cyber training ground in Wales, the Estonian National Broadcasting Agency reports citing an official statement by the Estonian Defense Ministry.

“NATO cyber training and training of NATO cyber defense experts will be conducted at the cyber training ground. This will increase the alliance’s presence in Estonia, and more international expert activity in the field of cyber defense will be involved here,” Sven Misker said.

The training ground will be created in Tallinn on the basis of the Estonian Defense Forces cyber training ground, created in 2012 and which is a unique training environment among NATO’s European allies, in which a number of high-level international cyber trainings were held. The largest NATO cyber defense exercises, Cyber Coalition, and the NATO’s Cyber Defense Cooperation Center exercises, Locked Shields, use the training ground.

In addition, the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Sven Mixer, signed an agreement of intent with colleagues from Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands on the basis of which the states will begin preparations for the creation of new quick reaction forces, the so-called unified expedition, Interfax reports “

As the press service of the Estonian Ministry of Defense said on Friday, after signing the agreement, negotiations will begin on the location of the structures of the single expedition.

The size of the new unit and the contribution of Estonia to it will be considered during the fall.

“A single expedition will give Estonia a very good opportunity to continue close cooperation with the United Kingdom and other allies with whom the brotherhood in arms connects with the operation of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in South Afghanistan,” said Mixer. According to him, “the creation of a single expedition is also a concrete step to increase NATO’s response forces.”

The creation of a new joint expeditionary rapid reaction force of about 10 thousand people was announced by Great Britain. Earlier it was reported that the creation of these forces is a response to hostilities in Ukraine. We recall in NATO that Russia is conducting a hybrid war in Ukraine, and recognize this as one of the most serious challenges.

The united expedition will include land, sea and air units. It will have to conduct operational military operations to protect allies, as well as respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises, the Ministry of Defense explained.

The initiator of the creation of a single expedition was the United Kingdom, which invited Estonia, Denmark, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania and the Netherlands, with which the British previously collaborated in international operations, to take part in it.

At the same time, as The Financial Times wrote earlier, “the joint expeditionary forces of Great Britain and France will be a model, which should achieve full combat readiness by 2016.”

FT indicates that the permanent deployment of NATO troops in Eastern Europe violates a number of agreements with Russia, so the alliance abandoned this measure.

The second day of the summit began with an air parade

The second day of the NATO summit, held in Newport in British Wales, began today with an air parade, ITAR-TASS reported.

It was attended by the British Red Arrows aerobatics team, as well as military fighters, bombers and NATO military transport aircraft.

The training aircraft of the British aerobatics group left behind in the sky a train of a pair of red, blue and white colors – the colors of the national flag of the United Kingdom, which hosts the summit.

The parade was watched from the ground by the leaders of the NATO countries, who applauded flying planes.

The central events of the second and final day of the NATO summit in Wales will be two sessions of the North Atlantic Council with the participation of leaders of 28 alliance countries (at 12:30 and 16:00 Moscow time). As an alliance representative told the agency, they will discuss “the challenges of global security and adapting the alliance to the world of the future,” and the adoption of “two documents – the communiqué and the Transatlantic Declaration” is also expected.

NATO cyber training ground to appear in Estonia

Estonian Defense Minister Sven Mikser and NATO’s Commander-in-Chief for Transformation, General Jean-Paul Palomero, signed an agreement of intent on Thursday to establish a NATO cyber training ground in Estonia.

This was reported on Friday by the Radio 4 news service, citing an official statement by the defense department of our country.

“The cyber training of NATO and the training of experts on cyber defense of NATO will be conducted at the cyber range. Thus, the alliance will increase its presence in Estonia, there will be even more international expert activity in the field of cyber defense,” Sven Misker said.

The training ground is a virtual environment where you can train managers and specialists in making strategic decisions in the field of cyber defense, conduct both individual training and team exercises.

The landfill will be located in Tallinn.

It will be created on the basis of the existing cyber lab of the Estonian Defense Forces, where a number of international exercises have already been held.

On September 4, the head of the Estonian defense department, Sven Mixer, and the commander-in-chief of the North Atlantic Transformation Alliance, General Jean-Paul Palomero, signed an agreement of intent, according to which NATO should establish a cyber training ground in Estonia.

The cyber polygon in question represents a virtual environment in which you can learn to make strategic decisions in the field of cyber defense. Training can be both individual and team. After the creation of this 21st century miracle – a cybernetic training ground – the alliance’s military will have a unique opportunity to organize and conduct NATO cyber missions, as well as train experts on cyber defense of the North Atlantic Alliance. Sven Mixer emphasizes that in this way an increase in Estonia’s presence in this military bloc will be achieved, and even more international experts will be involved in the field of cyber defense.

They want to arrange a cybernetic training ground in the capital of Estonia – Tallinn. The basis for its creation will be the existing cyber range of the Estonian defense forces. At the last, in particular, a number of international exercises have already been held, including the largest Cyber Coalition in NATO and the exercises of the Center for Cyber Security Cooperation of the North Atlantic Alliance Locked Shields.

Estonia has a clear plan on how to deal with the “green men” if they appear in our country: they will be killed, quoted the words of the Financial Times, the commander of the Estonian Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Riho Terrace.

“If Russian agents or special forces invade Estonian territory, you must shoot the first one who appeared,” Terras told the Financial Times. – If someone without military identification marks makes a terrorist attack in your country, you need to shoot him. They must not be allowed to be here. ”

Riho Terras emphasized that Estonia is a functioning society. “We are not like Ukraine. But we must be very knowledgeable about what is happening in Russia and be prepared. ”

According to him, Estonia should believe in the operation of the fifth article of the NATO collective defense treaty, but more importantly, “Mr. Putin” should not forget about it.

“Green men” is a euphemism for designating military personnel of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in military uniform without insignia that blocked strategic facilities in the Crimea during the Crimean crisis.
